    Slow Cooker Hoisin Beef

    This is a super easy, delicious addition to your meal rotation. Rest the beef for 10 minutes in cornstarch for a velvety texture and then brown it before adding it all to your slow cooker to do the 'heavy lifting'.

    How To Make It

    • First, you will toss your beef in the cornstarch and let it rest for 10 minutes.
    • Then brown your beef before transferring to your slow cooker.
    • Add the remaining ingredient and cook on low for 4 hours.
    • The cornstarch will thicken the sauce as it cooks.

    Wine Pairing

    Pairing with Asian food can be tricky, but this dish is not overly sweet, so choose a low-tannin red such as Merlot, Barbera, or a Rhone GSM blend.

    Equipment

    • 1 Slow Cooker

    Ingredients

    • 1.5 lbs stewing beef
    • ¼ cup cornstarch
    • 2 tsps olive oil
    • 1 medium onion sliced thinly
    • 3 cloves garlic minced
    • 3 green onions trimmed, white and green cut into ½ pieces
    • ½ cup soy sauce
    • ½ cup water
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • 1 tsp ginger grated
    • ½ cup hoisin sauce

    Instructions

    • Toss the cubes of beef in the cornstarch and allow it to rest about 10 minutes.
    • Heat the oil in a skillet and brown the beef cubes after they have rested.
    • Transfer beef to the slow cooker and add the remaining ingredients.
    • Cook on High 4 hours or low about 7 hours.

    Notes

    1.  Add mushrooms or sno peas to the slow cooker in the last half hour if you wish and serve over rice.
    Wine Pairing
    Choose a low-tannin red such as a Rhone GSM blend, a Barbera or a Pinot Noir.
