This Watermelon Granita is a nice touch to cleanse the palate between courses. You could also serve it as an after dinner refreshment.
I added a sweet dessert wine to mine to make it a bit fancier for a picnic luncheon I was serving. You could use sparkling wine as well or fruit juice, pop or flavoured water if you want to avoid the alcohol.
The frozen end result is a little bit like Italian ice where it is not cream based. You don’t really need much (unless you like the idea of a freezie!)
I actually put it under the ‘Condiment’ category because I think of it as a palate cleanser between courses.
No special equipment is required – you just freeze it in a shallow pan. With the alcohol in it it will not freeze completely solid. With pop or juice it will harden. Once it is frozen you just scrape it up with a good solid fork and spoon it into a small bowl or vessel.
I found these cute little 100 calorie desserts at Costco. The dessert were delicious but I have to admit the reason I got them was for the cute little curved plastic containers. They are like wavy shot glasses!
