Wine Picks <$35 from LCBO Vintages Release March 7th, 2020

Wow… a high scoring Tawny Port at an unbelievable price, a 95 point Cab under $25… a Gold winning Viognier under $15….stock up!

Fortified

Croft Reserve Tawny Port

750 mL bottle  |   VINTAGES#:  538983 $18.95 This is being highly recommended and heralded as outstanding value. Tawny Port is a beautiful thing with its fig, caramel and nuttiness which this one apparently has in spades. Almost unheard of at this price for a Tawny Port for a mundane one let alone for the 93 score that Ultimate Wine Challenge gave this. Drink now or within the next year or so. (Port doesn’t age in the bottle any further unless it is unfiltered).

Whites

André Blanck et ses Fils Altenbourg Gewurztraminer 2016

50 mL bottle  |   VINTAGES#:  168906 $20.95 Alsace produces the gold standard of Gewurztraminer. This one is described as textbook with rose petal, grapefruit, white pepper and lychee/ginger. This should be a treat for Gewurztraminer lovers. Drink now.

Paul Mas Single Vineyard Collection Reserve Viognier 2017

750 mL  bottle   |   VINTAGES#:  370098 $13.95 Midi, France Pal Mas is always a reliable producer and France is the master of Viognier. Note the Reserve designation and the fact that it won Gold at Mundus Vini in 2019. Hard to believe the $13.95 price tag. I will bet his one is worth stocking up on.

Reds

Kaiken Ultra Las Rocas Malbec 2016

750 mL  bottle   |   VINTAGES#:  50849 $19.95 Mendoza, Argentina Anything Kaiken is usually highly rated and the ‘Ultra’ ensures it. This one is described as ‘solid…complex..’ with fruit, dried flower and ‘sweet-tobacco’ by James Suckling who gave it 93.

Wakefield Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

750 mL  bottle   |   VINTAGES#:  142398 $24.95 South Australia, Australia Cab Sauv from Coonawarra bodes well. Decanter gave this a 95 score and noted herbs, mint and fresh acidity. Described as Full-bodied and Firm. So drink now or hold for 2-4 years.
