Simple Barbeque Sauce at Home

Tangy basic BBQ sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cup onion minced
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 4 Tbsps mustard
  • 1 ½ Tbsps Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup sugar See Note 1
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 Tbsps butter
  • 2 tsps hot sauce optional (I used Frank's Hot Sauce)

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer 15 minutes uncovered.
  • Allow to cool. (See Note 2)

Notes

Note 1:  a full cup of sugar makes for a very sweet BBQ sauce.  You could easily reduce to ¾ cup.
Note 2:  Sauce will thicken a bit as it cools but if you are in a hurry you could baste it on meat while it is still hot/warm.
