Fried Turnips

- 4 small turnips (about 1lb)
- 2 tablespoon ghee or regular butter
- pinch of dried thyme Optional
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon bread crumbs
Peel and trim the ends of the turnip. Dice turnip into ½" cubes.
Melt the ghee or butter in an oven proof skillet on medium high heat. Add the thyme if using.
Add the turnips and allow to fry about 5 minutes without stirring. Stir then allow turnips to fry another 4 minutes or so.
Preheat the broiler while turnips are frying. Leave the rack in the mid oven position.
When turnips are tender through, sprinkle with salt and the bread crumbs.
Put skillet in oven with the broiler for a couple of minutes to allow the bread crumbs to crisp up.
Remove and serve immediately.
