Wine Picks LCBO Vintages Release Aug 31, 2019

Four wines you might not want to miss from the LCBO Vintages Release Aug 31st, 2019.

Good Bets Under $35

White Wines

Les Vignerons du Castelas Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2017

Rhone, France   VINTAGES#:  142125  $15.95

This white Grenache blend is described as unctuous, crisply concentrated lemony and waxy by Anne Lee Iijima of Wine Enthusiast who awarded  it a score of 90 and a Best Buy vote.  This would be a great food wine with grilled scallops or white fish.

Santa Carolina Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2017

Itata Valley Chile,  VINTAGES#:  928580  $18.95

Santa Carolina is always a reliable Chilean choice. Vintages panel are calling this ‘gorgeous, beautifully integrated, balanced..punching above its price point … with oak, spice and a hint of saline minerality. ‘  Sounds like a good bet to me!

Red Wines

Thorn-Clarke Sandpiper Shiraz 2017

Barossa, South Australia  VINTAGES#:  10436  $17.00

James Halliday of winecompanion.com.au gave this a 94 point score and a Value + rating.  He describes ‘scented pepper, spice and black cherry ‘A solid producer with grapes from Barossa and Eden Valley.

Château Saint-Roch Roubials 2016

Roussillon, France    VINTAGES#:  644567  $24.95
Saint Roch from Roussillon has offered us many solid value wines over the past years.   This 90 % Grenache blend was awarded 92 points by Joe Czerwinski of robertparker.com who describes ‘knockout aromas’ structure and silkiness and a ‘surprising sense  of elegance’.  All that and more for $24.95!
