Four wines you might not want to miss from the LCBO Vintages Release Aug 3, 2019.
Good Bets Under $35
437004 Score 96 $26.95
I have a soft spot in my heart for this wine! The 2012 was voted the preferred white wine that paired best with my Veal Marsala Shells (the first recipe I ever published on this blog!) and the Melon and Crispy Prosciutto Salad that went with it.
This wine scores consistently well above 90 points year after year. It is from an area south of Lake Garda and 100% Trebbiano di Lugana grapes.
The score for the 2014 vintage quoted above was awarded by Decanter World Wine Awards in 2018.
The 2013 ranked #32 in the Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of 2016.
And now you the chance to pick up the 2014. Expect a rich and complex white, with aromas of white flowers, peaches and honey, a crisp and fresh palate with underlying herbs and minerality. All well balanced and delightfulful.
San Pedro 1865 Selected Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2018, DO Leyda Valley, Chile
#375212 Score 95 $18.95
This score above was awarded by Patricio Tapia of Descorchados in 2019.
Leyda Valley is capable of producing wonderful, crisp Sauvignon Blancs that compare favourably to the classic New Zealand style -herbal with citrus tones.
The San Pedro site says to expect ‘freshness and complexity, mainly marked by citric fruits, such as grapefruit and lime, tropical fruits, and mineral notes. Palate: freshness on the palate, fresh fruits, well-balanced, mineral, good acidity..long finish’
SCHILD ESTATE SHIRAZ 2016 (Barossa Valley, South Australia)
66555 (XD) Score 95 $19.95
The score this year was awarded at the International Wine Challenge, 2018. This wine consistently scores in the 90 + among a variety of reviewers. It is consistently rich and described as having baked or dried cherries, black fruits, spice and an elegant or expressive finish.
I stocked up on this one last year at this time and will look forward to doing so again! Smart Buy
Insurgente Vinho Tinto 2015, DOC Dao, Portugal
630947 Score 91 $17.95
Portuguese wines are pretty much always good value. Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast awarded the 91 points referenced above in Dec 2017 and describes ‘black fruits…spice and fine acidity’.
