Peach Banana Smoothie

Wow! This Peach Banana Smoothie is refreshing, healthy and guilt-free!

It makes a refreshing breakfast drink or any-time pick me up.

And as to the benefits – this combination is a powerhouse for potassium, about 1/4 of your recommended daily intake. It is vegan, dairy-free, gluten free, low sodium and relatively low fat.

That ticks a lot of boxes! Who knew healthy food could taste so good!

I resisted the smoothie tsunami for a long time because so many diet programs tell you not to drink your fruit or your meal.

And then I tried one with almond milk and I found it so light and easy – yet filling that I was getting drawn in.

This combination is so simple I didn’t think to turn it in to a ‘recipe’ at first but I found I was always tracking down the nutrition components if I was tracking calories or sodium etc. So… here you go!

I have found this little treat to be a great tool in my quest to lose those holiday pounds!

Obviously ingredients are all very flexible – too thick? Add more almond milk. Don’t like banana? Choose a different fruit. You get the picture.

There is such a good variety of frozen fruits in our grocery stores that you can make this year round. You don’t have to wait for fresh peaches (although I bet that will make it a bit brighter in the peach department!)

The one trick is that you want some of your fruit to be frozen. That will give you a milkshake type consistency that will take you back to your Dairy Queen days! The more of the fruit that is frozen, the thicker your smoothie. So again, you can adjust to suit your preferences.

The recipe the way it is written uses half a banana. The thought of having half a banana left over might be problematic for some people. But it doesn’t have to be – slice the other half and freeze it airtight for your next smoothie.

Or double the recipe and treat a friend or family member!

  • heavy duty high speed blender I use a Vitamix

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana fresh or frozen (See Note 1)
  • 1 cup peach slices fresh or frozen (See Note 1)
  • 1 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk I use Kirkland unsweetened vanilla flavour

Instructions

  • Mix all ingedients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Serve cold.

Notes

Note 1:  You can use fresh or frozen fruit. Some portion of your fruit (at least half) should be frozen to make your smoothie thick.  The more frozen fruit the thicker you smoothie will be.
Note 2:  You will need a high speed blender to process the frozen fruit.  I use a Vitamix.  If you aren’t sure you could partially thaw your fruit and process when semi-soft.
