It is so hard to catch your avocados at the right stage of ripeness. If you need to hurry some up here is How to Ripen Avocados Same Day.
The length of time will depend on how ripe or unripe your avocados are. The name of the game here is to increase the circulation of ethylene gas. If you need our avocados the same day this will save you.
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
- Wrap you avocado(s) completely in foil
- Bake them in the oven at 200 degrees. If they are close to being ripe- check them after 15 minutes. You will see some softening after the first 15 minutes. You may need to leave them in the oven up to 2 hours.
I needed very ripe avocados for my No Cook Chocolate Mousse recipe. I got the ripest I could find in the store but mine still took 2 hours to get to the very ripe consistency.
One note of caution- after 2 hours in the oven my avocado had developed a bit of brown skin in the seed cavity. I just lightly scraped it out with a spoon. They turned out beautifully in my mousse.
They would also be fine for salsa or if you are dicing for a salad. They may not be pristine enough to serve alone say as a half avocado on its own.
If you have a couple of days to work with you can also seal the avocados in a brown paper bag along with some apples and oranges. The more apples and oranges the more ethylene gas and the more ripening effect. This is a bit more gentle approach. I would be tempted to work with this one if I have the time. You can always resort to the oven method if they aren’t quite ready when you are!
